For this assignment I don't really know what I want to shoot. I think I will go into park city and shoot stuff there. I think I will shoot more zooming in because I don't really have much time to shoot. I would like to do some stuff about texture because that seems like a good way to do zooming in
I liked this assignment. I ended up reshooting it because I didn't like my original images. As I thought most of my images were zooming in. I didn't go into Park City but I got some OK images at my house. I tried to shoot thing that I hadn't already taken pictures of which was a challenge but I think I did a good job of it.

Observation Assignment
It was cloudy but some how still bright on the hill where I stood. I looked out over a valley onto The Canyons Mountain Resort. I could see every run in the resort very clearly. Nothing was hidden behind other mountains. This view of The Canyons was so good that they used it on their ski map. Today the clouds covered the top half of the mountains. On the opposite side of the horizon it was nearly cloudless and the sun was just rising. The angle of the sun also illuminated large patches of The Canyons. When I Turned slightly I could see Park City Ski Resort. The runs were half covered in snow and the exposed parts were brown because no plants had been able to grow yet. Jupiter Peak rose above the other mountains. One side of it was still entirely covered in snow while the other had only a few small patches near the bottom. If I were to continue turning I would see mountains in every direction. All brown with random patches of snow.
It was cloudy and looked as if it had just rained. The rive ran wildly through the river bed. Some plants had been caught up in the rushing river. The plant along the river were green and the rocks were rounded. Lots of water was spilling over a small waterfall upstream in the river.

Birds
So over spring brake me and my dad went on a trip to Arizona to photograph birds. Mainly it was for my science project but it was also to learn how to take good pictures with big lenses and stuff like that. Me and my dad had a really good time and he also taught me how to do panoramas and shoot in HDRI. Here are some of my favorite bird pics that I took.

This bird was impossible to photograph because it was very hyper and only sat still for about a second before jumping away. To get this pic I had to be lucky enough to have my camera focused on the right spot before the bird got there.

This bird is a hepatic tanedger (ya thats an awsome name) and it is a rare bird. In this picture it is collecting nesting materials.

This is my favorit european starling pic ever!!!! I shot this on one of my first days with my dads camera and I was really proud of it.

This pic was cool because the two canyon wrens just sat there like that the whole time that we were there. One thing that I wonder is how they stand on the cactus and not get stabbed by its needles.

This bird is called an Elogant Trogan. It is wery rare and we only found it because it nests in this same place every year.

This is an Anna's Humming Bird. It is not really that color that was just the way that the light was hitting him.

This bird surprised us because usually road runners are hard to photograph. This one wasn't. He lived near are camp ground and ran through every day at about 4:oo. He wasn't shy and would run around all of the campsites very slowly. me and my dad were so surprised to see him that we each shot like 15 pics of him. This was the best one and ofcorse I took it.

These are Turkey vultures. That is a dead elephant seal. It may look cool but it smelled terrible. Imagine a 6ft long seal left dead on a beach for two weeks. Ewwww!
In the end me and my dad took over 5,000 pics and went from Sierra Vista Arizona (A small boarder town in eastern AZ) to Monetary California. Covering well over 3,000 miles in about 9 days.

Edward Burtynsky
Edward Burtynky was born in St. Catherine's, Ontario in 1955. In college he studied photography and graphic design. Now Burtynsky's work is in over 55 museums world wide and he has several books. Burtynsky is famous for shooting images of land scape's and junk yards and things like that.

I like this image because it is so detailed. Their is so much to look at with all of the paintings and designs. I love how red this image is but the painting at the top brings in a lot of other colors too. I wonder where this theater is, could it be the Paris Opera house?

This Image if very different from the last one and I like it better. I wonder how tall that pile of tires on the right is. I like how all of the tires are different yet the same and how some areas are really densely tired while you can see the ground in others.

This Image is different from the first two in that It is not man made. The river looks like lava but now that I think of it the river could be extremely polluted. That would fit in with Burtynskys theme of destroyed environments better.

What are all of these string things? some of them look like wires but what are the others. This images also fits into the similar but different category of the tires.

This is my favorite image by Burtynsky. The light is amazing and those boats look huge. I love how in the back ground you can see other boat because it shows that this isn't necessarily a rarity. I also like the pools of water in the mud an the reflection of the boat. I wonder if the ocean still goes high enough to reach the boat because if it does than that would also be a cool picture.

I like this picture because I like how fields of tall grass look in the wind. I love how they all the grass sways together and I have always wanted to get a picture of that. I also like how the sky is grey and murky and how the mountains match the color of the grass.

I think this picture is amazing. I found it interesting because I just shot the night assignment and I know how hard it is to shoot at night. I wanted to get a picture like this but it was very cloudy so I didn't get a chance to. I wonder how long his exposure was and how he got the rocks.

I like this picture because it reminds me of the mountains in Utah. i wonder where this lake is, I like the flowers in the corner and how they give this pic a little more color. I like how the reflection of the mountain in the water is directly below the mountain.

I love the blue in this picture. I wonder how big those lakes are because at first I thought that they were very small and then I noticed the trees in the back. I like the effect of the blue mist coming off the water and the orange surrounding the water. I wonder why all of the trees are dead on the side of the hill that Muench was on.

I don't really know why I like this picture so much but I like it. It is interesting how he captures the river going off into the distance and the mist over the rain forest. When you look at the picture closely you can see buildings and farms in the rain forest but the mist kind of covers that up. I like how this picture is very clear at the bottom and fades away towards nothingness at the top.
I like this picture because it shows all of the different bricks. I also like how the boat is just sitting there and isn't the same color as the house. I like ho the door kind of reflects off the water and how old the wood is. One thing that I really like about Muench's photography is his attention to small details that other photographers wouldn't really notice.

One of my favorite thins about Muench is how he captures color. This picture is amazing and I love how you can see the small details on the arch. I like the contrast between red and blue and the small amount of snow on the arch.

I really like this pictur because I like the way it capturs the colors of the flowers and the mountain. In this picture and many others like it David Muench used film processing methods that he created and perfected. Landscape photography is my favorite type of photography to shoot and that is why I chose to write about Muench. I wonder where he took this picture.
David Muench is an American Land scape photographer. His father and son are both land scape photographers as well. David Muench was born on June 25, 1936 in Santa Barbra California. Shomei Tomatsu
Shomei Tomatsu grew up in Nagoya Japan. He was born in 1930 and went to college to study economics. As a student Tomatsu had some of his work published in popular magazines and he published a book with fellow photographers Eikoh Hosoe and Ikko Narahara in 1959. In 1975 Tomatsu published an award winning book called Okinawa and in 1998 Tomatsu moved to Nagasaki. Tomatsu was a war photographer and he wasn't very old during World War II.

This image is of an actress in the movie Shiiku. This image was taken in 1961. While shooting this actress she told Tomatsu the he was the only photographer to ever photograph the scared side of her face. This is one of Tomatsu's most famous pictures and it is the cover of his book The Skin of The Nation

I really like this image cause you cant really tell whats going on. The people look kind of confused and it looks really cold. I love the detail of the smoke or air or something in this picture. I love how the girl is sharply in focus and everything else is kind of blurry.

This picture is of a person that was badly burned by the atomic bombs in Nagasaki. I like this portrait because it doesn't show their face. This is an example of an image that has meaning but isn't directly of their face. Unlike most portraits that are directly of the face this one is taken from a different angle.

This picture is of a bottle distorted by an atomic bomb in Nagasaki. This picture shows the horror of war fare and what it can do to people. If this is what happened to a bottle in an atomic bomb than imagine what happened to the people in Nagasaki.
